Best Flat Iron

Straight Hair Can Be Beautiful And Healthy

It use to be that women with curly or wavy hair had to resort to harsh chemical straightening solutions if they wanted a sleek, smooth look. Those days are long gone, thanks to the invention of the flat iron. The best flat iron for one type of hair may not be the best choice for a different type but all flat irons have several things in common. They are made of two flat surfaces that conduct heat and are intended to be pressed together with a section of hair in between. This heats the hair and straightens it as the flat iron is gently pulled down the length of hair.

The best flat iron is arguably the one that works the most effectively for a particular person. But the type of hair -- coarse, fine, curly, wavy, long, or mid-length -- will have a direct effect on how well a flat iron performs. It must be noted that the talent of the operator using the flat iron also has a direct impact on flat iron results. As with most things, it takes a bit of practice and persistence for the average person to master the flat iron and get the results they want every time.

Flat irons range in cost from around twenty dollars to well over a hundred dollars and even more. Usually, the best flat iron is going to cost more than the twenty dollar variety and it won't be found at the local drug store or super center. Generally speaking, the better flat irons will be carried at salon supply houses or in salons themselves. It is highly recommended that a person check with their personal stylist to determine exactly which flat iron will be best for their particular hair.

Most hair experts and at-home stylists agree that the best flat iron is one with ceramic plates. Ceramic plates do the least amount of damage to the hair. A flat iron with heat control is also a nice to have but not a necessity if the person using it is expert at it. Most damage from flat irons comes from heat and mechanical efforts. If the person using the flat iron knows how to use one effectively, the degree of damage to the hair can be minimized or even avoided. All experts agree that hair that is regularly straighted by using a flat iron needs to be kept in tip-top condition to stay healthy and strong.
